As a side note, I personally have most of my stuff in this situation. There are a few things that are on one computer only and may not be backed up - this scares me and I will remedy it soon... But I'm not paranoid... seriously... I just back up my own computer and my supervisor backs up the lab computers... Well okay, I look paranoid but I don't feel paranoid... It is 2 years worth of work and worth a degree! Okay, I'm a little paranoid but I maintain that it is a normal level of paranoia...

Be paranoid! My father is a college professor and one of his PhD students had his car stolen with the laptop in the back which had the only draft of his paper and many of his notes were in the car too because he was moving them from home to office (or vice versa! No joke. Really, what are these people thinking with this advice. This is years of your life on these computers. Go back them up again now!
You're not paranoid. really, you're not. Back it up, give copies to people who don't live at the same place, work at the same place.... take the same route to work etc...
How important is your work? Make sure it's safe if it's irreplaceable.
