Heck yeah! I've also test-dyed things by doing a swatch like that, then putting it in a glass with the dye, soaking, and then microwaving. Seems the obvious way to go, to ME.
But it is kinda cute.
After my kid sees me do this, she shoves washcloths into my drinks for a couple days.

He he - it makes me think of gross specimens in the Zoology lab at Uni ... only much much nicer :)
