Well since the last post I've decided that I am a real blogger (albeit a bit lazy) - I have lurkers and everything! I'm still puzzling over the privacy thing. I found that if you google my name and Canadian pages one of the top choices gives you my Amazon review of Amy Lane's book. And if you include Calgary in the search my name comes up on the NSERC website (as does my Amazon review). So even if I wanted to be completely off the internet I can't be. If you google my name plus my university affiliation you come up with a link to my university site (very very plain) and the second link is to my lab. Yup, so much for anonymity. I think I will put a different user name on Ravelry but that is as far as I've gotten on decisions. In terms of university related things I want people to be able to find me as that is good for my job prospects in the future. And I'm not a private person in real life. There are some things you won't get me to talk a lot about and there are some things that will make me uncomfortable but to a large extent I am accepting - to each his/her own opinion. 

But there - look at me - I'm posting again this month. Oh dear, this could become a habit! Do you think it is contagious?

Privacy?

I've been thinking about how perhaps I am not private enough about who I am on the internet. I use my real name (and full - first and last) for my email and Ravelry. And people know where I work if they read my blog. Perhaps I should be more private, use a pseudonym like CatieCat which is what some of my friends call me. I don't know. I see other bloggers who keep themselves private (some to an amazing degree) and others who post their names and even pictures of their kids and houses (and I like seeing that part of their life). Some of these bloggers are wildly popular so thousands of people see their blogs, perhaps even daily. I know where I am in the mix but I'm not sure how I got there - I think I just decided that I didn't give a damn who knew me and what I wrote and went from there. But with all the crazies out there I wonder if I should change (and if I even could change without setting up brand new accounts). The one thing that is still private in my life is kids - mainly because I don't have any yet and I don't post pictures of other people's kids...

What do y'all think?

ETA: I just found out that you get 2 free name changes on Ravelry (after that you pay but that part isn't set up yet). I am leaning towards changing my name to CatieCat or just Catie - I'll let you know what I end up deciding...

Getting It Out There

Maybe I should just concentrate on posting and ignore the fact that posts without pictures are not as much fun. I finished blocking my Mystery Stole 3 just over a week ago and I think I took pictures, but of course they are not on my computer and I am at work so I do not have my camera. OOO but wait, I have pictures that have not been posted from other finished objects, some dating to before Christmas I think but oh well, they are new and shiny for you guys.

I don't get the Flickr posting thing - if anyone has tips on putting photos from flickr into your blog in a painless manner please let me know. As far as I can do it I get one picture in a post but I like to put more than one per post. And I wish that blogger would put the photos where my cursor was instead of at the top of the post. Anyway, I was going to chat for a bit but now that there are pictures I will leave you to look at the knitting and will regale you with tales of graduate school another day.
